“And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:7

NH2022 April Update

Dear Friends

In a world of conflict and stress, God’s peace transcends human understanding but it is on offer to each one of us in Christ Jesus.  This summer at New Horizon we will consider all the ways that God transforms us by the renewing of our minds.  Join us for a powerful week of teaching, worship and fellowship together.

New Horizon chairperson Paul Coulter writes,”We are delighted to be planning to be back in the big tent in Coleraine this summer.  It has been a challenging two years for all of us. We are praying that this year’s New Horizon will bring great encouragement and blessing to many as we explore the important theme of transformed minds.  We are very aware of the significant mental and emotional health challenges many people are facing and we want to bring biblically-informed perspectives into these needs.  But our vision is not only to seek support amidst difficulties, but to ask what the Lord wants to do in us.  How does He want us to think?  What would it mean to understand every aspect of our lives in the light of the gospel with the Lord Jesus at the centre?”

Check out the new Frequently Asked Questions section on our website for lots of practical information about this year’s event.  We thought this was a helpful reminder from EA UK of why we do what we do at New Horizon.

Six reasons to return to Christian events

By Gavin Calver, EA UK

After the two years we’ve had, large events provide much-needed opportunities to break from routine, expand our horizons and build faith in what our God can do.

Six reasons to go to events

  • Seeing the exciting bigger picture that our own local context is a part of.
  • Introducing children and young people to the size and scale of the people of God gathered together.
  • Events are often the catalyst for decision moments for those searching or curious about faith in Jesus.
  • Getting away from distractions and carving out space for the ‘campfire’ moments.
  • We all need a little time to receive, especially if we have been continually serving and involved in church ministry.
  • Gaining fresh insights into who God is or hearing old truths revealed in a new way through teaching or worship content and approaches outside of our usual experience.

Volunteer with On the Edge

Investing in the lives of young people is one of the fantastic ways you can volunteer with New Horizon. The dynamic On the Edge team brings a great programme of worship, Bible teaching and fun for 11 to 14 year olds each morning and evening of New Horizon (Monday to Friday).  Up to 200 teenagers have the opportunity to grow closer to Jesus as you encourage and support them.  The OTE team is ideal for people with a passion for youth ministry or those who want to grow in their faith as they serve God.  Here’s what some of the past volunteers had to say:

“OTE was a great time of encouragement for me personally. I got to connect with people my age enthusiastic about passing on the faith. The time spent with the young people was fantastic too.”

“A fantastic team and something I would encourage many others to get involved with.”

“A great week at the coast serving with others as we sought to encourage and support young people.”

We also have great opportunities to serve in the Creche each morning (give just one morning to care for the youngest children at New Horizon) and on our Stewarding team (keeping everybody safe in the main tent).  Volunteering is a way of serving God and serving the church.  It is both fun and rewarding.
