But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.
Jeremiah 17: 7-8
Speaking at our New Horizon Prayer Breakfast on Saturday 8 June, prayer team member Linda Cardy shared from these verses:
“We approach another New Horizon with anticipation. How can we prepare for it? We find in these verses encouragement to enable us to be fruitful so God can use us to bring life to ourselves and others.
The tree speaks about my identity, like it my life has stability and strength because I am planted into someone outside myself. Like the tree I have the source of living water that is life giving. The tree is subject to seasons represented by heat and a year of drought. When I face external pressure, I feel uncomfortable and stressed. This is normal. When I struggle internally with stress or difficulty, it can feel like drought.
But something surprising is happening here… in spite of the heat and the drought, the tree continues to bear fruit and its leaves are green. My flourishing does not depend on my feelings but my connection with my source – which is Jesus.”
