Session

Creating a porn-free culture

Session date: Friday 8th August 2014 Session time: 11:45 am - 12:45 pm Session location: LT8 Session track

In today’s society everything is instant, including our access to information. The online world has opened up such potential and opportunity for us to connect, shop, play and research. When not managed, however, this freedom can bring us to images, videos and information that are damaging and destructive. One of the most shocking realities of today’s culture is the extent to which our young people are accessing porn online. Our survey results from over 4,000 15 year olds males in Northern Ireland shows that 30% are accessing porn online daily and 26% at least weekly. What impact is this having on them today and how will this shape their development and future relationships? This seminar will take a closer look at some of the trends and will also unpack the impact of pornography. We will also highlight some ways that we can create a porn free culture.
