New Horizon News – 08/08/2014
One week on, and thousands of flip-flop and wellie footprints later, the grass leading up to ‘The Big Blue Tent’ is just not quite up to Wimbledon standard anymore! More important than the changeable weather however, is the fact that hearts and lives have been changed this week through God’s word.
We have been encouraged, challenged and inspired by what Vaughan Roberts, Rachel Gardner and Malcolm Duncan have been saying to us at the Evening Celebrations, on subjects such as ‘Radical Faithfulness’ and ‘The Power of Grace’. Last night Malcolm took a step of faith as he laid aside his intended sermon and chose instead to speak from John 11. ‘If you can’t give God praise, kneel at his feet and give him your pain’, says Malcolm, reminding us that ‘God enters into our suffering and walks it with us’. It was clear that this message touched the hearts of many in a very real way.
Tonight we trust that God will continue to move as Malcolm concludes his series on ‘The Sermon on the Mount’. We pray that our speakers will have been blessed as much by being a part of NH as they have been a blessing to us this week. ‘It always makes sense to live for the Living God – even if everybody else is going in the opposite direction’. (Vaughan Roberts)
Creche, SU and Livewire continued once again this year during the morning Bible studies for young people aged pre-school to secondary school. Theme tunes, messy games and great worship have all been a part of the fun, as the young people were challenged to live more Christ reflecting lives. For those who just can’t get enough, OTE (On the Edge) is the place to be tonight, as they explore their theme, ‘Seek-Set your eyes on the Kingdom-‘ looking at what it means to seek God and how we can do that. Join the team in the Riverside Theatre from 1900 – 2130 for their last action-packed evening of games, drama, videos, interviews, ‘Faith in Action’ slot, ‘Andy’s Gym’ and much, much more!
Don’t forget to visit the bookstall ’10ofthose’ at the entrance of the main tent today for your last chance to grab a bargain or two! As well as the brilliant offers on the £1.00 table, books are on sale by all three of our main stage speakers this week, including Vaughan Roberts ‘True Friendship’ for only £3.00. While you’re there, have a browse around the mission stands to find out how you can support local and international ministries both prayerfully and practically throughout the year.
As the final tent peg is pulled out of the ground tomorrow morning and NH comes to an end for yet a nother year, we hope that you have enjoyed and benefitted from the week as much as we have. On behalf of everyone at NH, we would like to say a big thank-you to all the organisers, speakers, worship leaders, volunteers and everyone else behind the scenes for their service this week. Who’s ready for 2015?!
If you’re free tomorrow morning at 9.00 come and give a hand to take the tent down, stay as long as you can. BBQ lunch provided!
